SPIRE Fit is SPIRE’s community fitness and health center and it is open to everyone!

SPIRE Fit offers a variety of family, individual and senior memberships for those who desire a “best in class” workout environment. Health, wellness, and exercise are at the center of the SPIRE vision and SPIRE Fit promotes the values of these components for all of our members.

Whether you are rehabbing from an injury in the pool or working on range of motion exercise in the gym…building relationships in one of the group exercise classes…or the weekend warrior using the SPIRE biking and running trail – We can assist in making goals a reality and dreams come true.

SPIRE Fit features the latest equipment from some of the finest brands in exercise equipment including: CYBEX, Life Fitness, Keiser, Marpo Kinetics, and more. ADA compliant equipment is also available. A variety of group exercises are included with our general memberships.

SPIRE Fit is a community fitness and aquatic center whose target audience is the everyday exerciser. Whether you want to lose, maintain or gain weight, SPIRE Fit is the place for you.

Walking Program

  • Program Description

    Come join the adult indoor walking program at SPIRE Fit with a safe, comfortable, climate-controlled environment in the Field and Cristal Court Building. 

    Already a member of SPIRE Fit, just show your membership card at sign in.

    Low Intensity

    There is a softer surface for our runners if you are recovering from an injury or surgery on the field side of the same building. Feel free to ask when you check-in!

Military and Adaptive Sports Training

Weekly Programming For Disabled Veterans

  • Program Goal

    We want to create a long-term impact for the Disabled Veterans in Northeast Ohio. 

  • Program Design

    • Individual and group strength training exercises from both ambulatory and wheelchair/chair level to promote fitness for life. 
    • Improving core strength, cardio, overall strength training and range of motion. 
    • Enhances body awareness focusing on balance and flexibility 
    • Post-workout meals provided 
    • Monthly nutritional options and healthy food choices
    • Opportunity to ask questions and socialize with peers

    As a result, these participants will be able to perform field events with improved techniques thus improving their abilities. They will gain better knowledge and understanding of lifting techniques and skills in order to use what they have learned, in their daily lives. The veterans have been able to increase their physical and mental health along with losing weight, gained confidence and gaining new friends. 

  • Types Of Injuries & Disabilities Served

    Our participants have the following injury/disability: knee amputations, traumatic brain injury, diabetes, spinal cord injury, PTSD, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Multiple Sclerosis and has experience with many other injuries/disabilities.

    Ashtabula, Lake County, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Mahoning, Portage, Stark, Summit, Trumbull, and Erie County, Pennsylvania

  • Program Times

    Due to the number of Disabled Veterans and their different levels of injury/disability, we have a program coach who designs and runs the program along with 2-3 assistant coaches helping each week. These coaches spend an hour or more helping with any of the sports they coach.

    46 Veterans this past year served from Northeast Ohio & Northwestern PA

    Participants in our program have competed in the Valor Games, Buckeye Wheelchair Games, National Veterans Wheelchair Games, and the Golden Age Games

    SilverSneakers is a fun, energizing program that helps older adults take greater control of their health by encouraging physical activity and offering social events.

  • What is Renew Active

    Renew Active is a fitness program exclusively through United Health Care.  It allows members to use the SPIRE Fitness Center during all hours of operation.  This includes the SPIRE gym and the SPIRE Recreation/Competition pool.

    You will need a Confirmation Code that you can obtain by calling the number on the back of your insurance card, or you can simply come in to SPIRE and we can obtain that code for you through the Healthy Contributions website.

Swim Lessons

At this time, we are not offering swim lessons.

Lifeguard Training Course

This American Red Cross course will teach you life saving techniques, help you gain experience and may lead to employment as a life guard.

  • Candidates planning to take the course must meet the following prerequisites:

    • Be at least 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of the course
    • Swim 300 yards, continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.
    • Tread water for 2 minutes, using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits
    • Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds:
      • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. Swim goggles are not allowed.
      • Surface dive, feet-first or headfirst, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
      • Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath.
      • Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

  • How Do I Become A Member?

    Becoming a member is easy! Visit SPIRE Fit at a time that is convenient for you. Please bring a photo ID. We’ll talk with you about which membership would best fit your needs as well as your health and wellness goals. You can make your initial payment (the initiation fee plus your first month’s dues, pro-rated as needed); we’ll set up a monthly bank draft and issue you a membership card. You can start working out that day!

     

  • How Much Does It Cost To Be A Member?

    Fees vary depending on the category of membership you choose. There is a one-time initiation fee and monthly membership fees.  There is no contract so you can stop your membership at any time (we require 30 days’ notice prior to your draft date).

    Membership categories include:

    • Family Membership (one or two adults and all dependents under the age of 24 as long as they are on primary parent’s tax return)
    • Adult Membership (19+)
    • Youth/Teen Membership (12-18 years old)
    • Senior Membership (65+)

    Please remember that there is a $50 non-sufficient funds or return payment fee. Please make sure to update your accounts with us as they change. 

  • What Is Included With A Membership?

    As a full fitness center and pool member, you receive use of the entire fitness center during all hours of operation and a free initial equipment orientation along with access to the free group exercise classes and access to the pool’s open swim and lap swim time. You also receive member rates on all paid fitness and aquatics programs and swim lessons. 

    SPIRE Tracks, Courts, Fields and Performance center are not included in memberships. 

    The Striders program is included in the SPIRE Fit membership. 

     

  • Do You Accept Silver Sneaker?

    Yes, we do accept the SilverSneakers program. Please check with your Healthcare supplement provider to see if you qualify.

  • As a SilverSneakers Member, What Do I Have Access To?

    As a SilverSneakers member you have access to the same amenities as a Full Senior Member:

    • Use of the entire fitness center during all hours of operation
    • Free initial equipment orientation
    • Designated free group exercise classes
    • Access to the pool’s open swim and lap swim time
    • You also receive member rates on all paid SPIRE Fit (gym & pool) programs
  • What Is the Difference Between Lap Swim and Open Swim?

    Lap swim is done in the Competition pool and must be continuous. Open swim is done in the Recreation pool (warm pool) and is a leisure activity.

  • May I Swim Prior To And After My Swim Class?

    Extra pool use is permitted if you are a member. Individuals who are attending a single class and who are non-members may use the pool only during class time. Non-members are not permitted to use the pool while their child is in class. 

  • May I Send My Kids To The Pool While I Work Out?

    Children who are members and who are age 12 and up may use the pool unchaperoned as long as they follow the pool rules and their parent is in the building working out. A parent must complete a waiver prior to the youth, age 12-17, being allowed to be unchaperoned.

    Children 11 and under must have a parent on the pool deck.

    Children under the age of 6 must have a parent within arm’s reach in the water with them or satisfactorily pass the deep end test. 

     

  • How Do I Cancel My Membership?

    At SPIRE, there are no contracts for the length of your membership.

    If you need to cancel your membership, please stop at the Member Services desk and request a cancellation form 30 days prior to your draft date. 

     

  • May I Freeze My Membership?

    Yes, a 30-day notice from your draft date is required and there is a $10 freeze fee. If you want to continue your freeze or extend it, there is an additional $10 freeze fee for each continued freeze. A Member Change Form must be completed each time. Please note that at the end of a hold your membership will restart. You must notify us if you then wish to cancel. Freezes will not begin until both the freeze fee and the completed form are received. 

    Snow-Bird on Hold status requires a 30-day notice. The minimum time frame is two months and the maximum is six months. There will be an “on hold” fee that will be assessed at the time of membership hold. The standard membership fee will resume when active membership status is reinstated. All requests must be completed in writing.

    For any other cancelation or on-hold reason, outside of medical, there is a 2-month maximum before a new initiation fee would be assessed. 

     

  • What If I Lose My Membership Card?

    SPIRE Fit will replace the membership card one time (1) for free. Please stop at the SPIRE Fit front desk for the replacement card. After the first lost card, any additional replacement cards will be $5.

     

Policies & General Information

  • Fitness Center/Gym Room Policies

    We care about your health and safety; please respect yourself, other members and staff by following the rules below:

    1. Wipe down equipment after use. 
    2. Be considerate. Limit use of cardiovascular equipment to a maximum of 30 minutes when others are waiting.
    3. When using the strength equipment please be courteous to other members and do not sit on the machine between sets. Be considerate and allow members to “work-in”.
    4. Please return weights, magazines, mats and other equipment to their designated space.
    5. No food. Only beverages in spill-proof containers are permitted.
    6. SPIRE is not responsible for any items lost or stolen on SPIRE property. This includes all surrounding areas and parking lot. This includes any items left in a locker or left in the care of SPIRE employee.
    7. Fighting boisterous conduct, and verbally, physically or sexually threatening or intimidating other individuals is prohibited.
    8. Use of loud, abusive, harassing, profane or obscene language or racial epithets directed to anyone, in person or on the telephone is prohibited.
    9. Theft, destruction or damaging of facility property is prohibited.
    10. The use of any drugs or illegal substances is prohibited both inside the facility and the outside surrounding areas
    11. The possession of weapons, explosives or firearms while on SPIRE property is strictly forbidden.
    12. No solicitation.
    13. No unauthorized photography is allowed within our premises or outside surroundings.
    14. All individuals are expected to follow all safety and security guidelines that are in place.
    15. Members and guests under the age of 11 are required to be under the direct supervision of an adult at all times.
    16. Report any malfunctioning or broken equipment to a staff member immediately.
    17. No coats or bags in the gym. 
    18. Youth under the age of 9 are not allowed to use the gym or free weight equipment at any time, unless enrolled in a program.
    19. Youth ages 9-11 may use the gym under direct parent/guardian supervision. Upon completion of the youth orientation and with a waiver signed by the parents and staff, youth will be issued s colored paper wristband allowing access to the gym.
    20. Teens ages 13-17 do not need direct parent supervision if they have a parent sign a waiver.
    21. Certain areas of SPIRE are restricted by specific guidelines regarding age usage.
    22. There is no outside personal training allowed.
  • Clothing & Attire

    Appropriate shirt, clean clothing and shoes, close-toed athletic shoes and shorts or pants are required for the gym facilities, Street clothes, boots, sandals and jeans are not permitted.

    Inappropriate or offensive dress will not be tolerated.

  • Replacement Card Policy

    SPIRE Fit will replace the membership card one time (1) for free. Please stop at the gym front desk for the replacement card. After the first lost card, any additional replacement cards will be $5.

  • Tobacco Policy

    SPIRE facilities are tobacco-free environments.

  • Membership Cancellation

    At SPIRE Fit, there are no contracts for the length of your membership. A written notice of cancellation, however, must be received by the membership office thirty (30) days prior to your next draft date to ensure no further debits to your account. If a member rejoins after 30 days of cancelling membership, they are subject to the initiation fee. If you have paid in full for the year, the 30 day cancellation notice is still in effect. You will be reimbursed the remaining monthly draft after the 30 days is added. Tax will not be refunded. Membership cards must be turned in at time of cancellation. A pending card will be issued for the remainder of your time as a member.

  • Medical Situation

    With the presentation of a doctor’s note we will be able to place your membership on medical hold. When we receive a doctor’s note stating that you can take part in physical activity, we will activate your account. You will not be subject to the initiation fee.

  • Credits/Refunds

    Refunds will not be issued once a program session begins, unless warranted by a doctor’s note stating a valid medical reason. There are no refunds due to inclement weather or other incidents. SPIRE will make every effort to offer a makeup class for canceled programs due to inclement weather.

  • Weather & Cancellation Policy

    Every effort will be made to inform participants of canceled programs due to weather and/or other circumstances.

    The facilities will open for general use but no free or paid programs will run that morning. Please check the website for updates. We cannot guarantee that the canceled events/programs will be rescheduled.

  • Code of Conduct

    SPIRE Members and Guests are expected to be respectful of all others. SPIRE retains the right to deny access, suspend or cancel a membership when a member’s conduct is determined to endanger the safety of others or interfere with another member’s enjoyment and reasonable use of SPIRE facilities. 

  • Grounds for Denying Access or Membership

    SPIRE reserves the right to deny access or membership to any person who:

    • Has been convicted of any crime involving sexual abuse or other sexual offenses
    • Is a registered sexual offender or sexual predator
    • Is intoxicated or exhibits signs of misusing narcotics or dangerous drugs
    •  Has been convicted of any offense relating to the use, sale, possession or transportation of narcotics or habit-forming and/or dangerous drugs
    • Is currently suspended or terminated per the ‘Grounds for Suspension or Termination’ listed below
  • Grounds for Suspension or Termination

    SPIRE does not tolerate inappropriate, threatening or harassing behavior including but not limited to: 

    • Use of offensive language
    • Destruction of property
    • Sharing membership card with others
    • Theft
    • Being in possession or under the influence of alcohol or drugs
    • Sexual Misconduct
    • Disorderly Conduct 
    • Physical Fights
    • Verbal or other forms of harassment 
    • Nudity in the steam room or sauna areas or the locker room
    • Selling or promoting products and services without SPIRE authorization
    • Any behavior that is determined to be unacceptable by SPIRE, and is detrimental to those we serve.

    No refund will be issued for a suspended or terminated membership

  • Fees For Returned Checks or Bank Drafts

    A $50 fee will be charged for all returned checks or drafts. Members will be placed on financial suspension until their obligations are fulfilled.
