SPIRE Selected for $76,088 VA Grant to Support Adaptive Sports for Veterans

SPIRE Academy has been selected for $76,088 in VA grant funding to support year-round adaptive sports opportunities for Veterans with disabilities at its Geneva, Ohio campus.

SPIRE Academy has been selected for $76,088 in funding through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Adaptive Sports Grant Program to support year-round adaptive sports opportunities for Veterans with disabilities.

The proposed program would bring Veterans to SPIRE’s campus in Geneva, Ohio, for adaptive sports visits, creating opportunities to participate in activities designed or modified for individuals with disabilities.

SPIRE’s application advanced through a highly competitive review process and was recommended for funding based on its overall merit and alignment with the VA’s program priorities. Reviewers specifically recognized the value of the proposed year-round visits.

The grant represents an opportunity for SPIRE to connect more members of the Veteran community with sports and physical activity. The proposed visits would focus on participation, giving Veterans opportunities to develop skills and connect with others through shared experiences in sport.

The award agreement outlines a grant period running from September 30, 2026, through September 30, 2027. SPIRE is completing the acceptance process and required program updates, with specific activities and participation details to be finalized.

The selection marks a meaningful step toward making SPIRE’s campus a place where more Veterans can experience the connection, challenge and camaraderie of sport.
