SPIRE Academy Wrestlers Take Top Spots at Journeyman World Classic

04/11/2025

SPIRE Academy has made high school wrestling headlines once again, this time for two individual performances at the Journeyman World Classic Freestyle Wrestling Tournament and Duals, held April 4 and 5 at Union College in Schenectady, New York.

Ryan Kennedy and Jason Dube both competed at 145 lbs and put on dominant performances, each going 5-0 with impressive wins over top international opponents. Rather than face off, the two were named co-champions of the event—highlighting the depth of talent in the bracket. Denis Kodakov Gil was off to a strong start with a 2-1 record before an elbow dislocation forced him to medically forfeit the rest of the tournament.

Next up for SPIRE Wrestling? Competing at the U.S. Open in Las Vegas at the end of April, which will no doubt offer even more dominant performances from SPIRE grapplers.
