SPIRE Academy goalkeeper Sammy Harvey, a junior from Turks and Caicos, took his game to the next level with trial opportunities at two Major League Soccer clubs: Nashville SC and the Seattle Sounders.
The opportunity came through SPIRE coaches Sean Lane, Head Coach and Director of Soccer, and Paul Smalley, Head Coach of Girls Soccer. Drawing on their professional networks, Lane and Smalley created a pathway that opened doors for Harvey. Both clubs had reviewed Harvey’s resume, studied his highlight videos, and observed his performances with SPIRE and in international competition. Based on those evaluations, he was invited to train directly with each club’s goalkeepers.
“Sammy Harvey is one of the hardest working players at SPIRE,” said Coach Lane. “He’s dedicated to his craft and is a leader within the group. These trials give Sammy the platform to prove himself in a professional environment.”
“It’s exactly what we work toward at SPIRE, developing players, and then creating pathways for them to reach the next level,” emphasized Coach Lane.
“Through SPIRE’s global network within soccer, we have managed to organize a development opportunity for one of our rising stars,” added Coach Smalley. “He has represented SPIRE and SPIRE FC in different age groups, and now he’s been given the chance to be seen in a Major League Soccer environment.”
The trials come at a pivotal time in Harvey’s career. As a junior, he is in a unique position to explore professional academy opportunities and train alongside first-team players. That experience could accelerate his progress toward a potential professional contract.
For Harvey, this is a major step toward a professional future. For SPIRE, it reaffirms the Academy’s growing reputation for preparing student-athletes for the next stage of their careers.
