Another SPIRE Academy postgraduate is making an immediate impact at the Division I level.
Kyle Waltz, who completed a postgraduate year with SPIRE Basketball during the 2024 to 2025 academic year, is now a freshman guard at Miami University in Ohio and a member of the only undefeated Division I men’s basketball team in the country.
While not yet a full-time starter, Waltz is earning meaningful rotational minutes for a RedHawks program competing at a national level. As a freshman, he has embraced his role off the bench, bringing defensive intensity, pace, and composure in critical stretches.
His progression reflects the purpose of SPIRE’s postgraduate model. After arriving in Geneva looking to elevate his game, Waltz used his additional year to physically develop, refine his skill set, and adapt to the daily structure and expectations of a college-style environment.
At SPIRE, he established himself as a disciplined student athlete, consistent in the classroom and competitive on the court. The postgraduate year provided the space to mature mentally and physically, preparing him for the speed, strength, and structure of Division I basketball.
Now at Miami, Waltz is contributing to meaningful college basketball while gaining experience within a program chasing history.
His journey underscores SPIRE’s mission to equip student athletes with the tools, structure, and high-level competition necessary to translate development into opportunity at the next level.
As Miami continues its undefeated run, SPIRE proudly watches one of its own competing on one of the biggest stages in college basketball.
