From Champions to Greatness: Celebrating Past Competitors of the USATF National Youth Outdoor Championships

From June 26 to July 2, 2023 SPIRE Academy will be hosting the highly anticipated USA Track & Field National Youth Outdoor Championships. This event brings together the nation’s most talented young track and field athletes, providing them with an unparalleled platform to showcase their skills.

As SPIRE prepares to welcome athletes and spectators from all across the country, the Academy also celebrates the legacy of previous USATF National Youth Outdoor Championship competitors, who have each left their own mark on this event, including:

  • Emily Sisson (2006 competitor): Went on to secure the North American record in the marathon by finishing second overall at the 2022 Chicago Marathon.
  • Zach Ziemek (2010 competitor): Earned a sixth-place finish in the decathlon at the Tokyo Olympic Games and a bronze medal at the 2022 World Championships.
  • Tara Davis-Woodhall (2012 competitor): Achieved the American junior record in the indoor long jump and reached the finals of the women’s long jump event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, finishing sixth.
  • Lynna Irby-Jackson (2014 competitor): Boasts an impressive collection of 16 national titles from Jr Olympic and Youth National meets, with victories including an Olympic gold in the 4×400-meter relay and a bronze in the mixed-gender 1,600-meter relay at the Tokyo Olympic Games.
  • Aleia Hobbs (2012 competitor): Set the North American indoor record in the 60 m dash with a blistering time of 6.94 seconds in February 2023, establishing herself as the second-fastest woman of all time in the event. She also clinched an Olympic silver medal in the 4×100 m relay at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
  • Raevyn Rogers (2008/2012 competitor): Earned an Olympic bronze medal in the 800 m at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
  • Valarie Allman (2011 competitor): Made history as the first American woman to win a world championship medal in the discus throw, capturing an Olympic gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and a bronze at the 2022 World Athletics Championships.
  • Maggie Ewen (2011 competitor): Secured a gold medal in the shot put and a bronze in the discus event at the 2018 NACAC Championships in Toronto. She also achieved a remarkable third-place finish for throwing at the 2018 Athletics World Cup.

The journey these athletes have taken following this event serves as a testament to the caliber of talent these championships see.
