After a long period of serving the Harpersfield and Geneva community, Chops Grille & Tap House will be closing its doors effective immediately. Chops, originally established under local families, has long been a beloved fixture in the area. SPIRE Academy, which took over operations with a fresh vision in 2023, made significant investments in redesigning the restaurant space. However, with SPIRE’s core Academy, camps and events experiencing rapid growth, the decision has been made to refocus resources on those expanding operations.

“We are sorry we weren’t able to permanently reactivate the restaurant,” said Jonathan Ehrenfeld, SPIRE Managing Partner. “It was a new industry for us, and we had hoped to maintain a local staple. As with all of our work in the community, we hope that our investment in Chops will help bring another great provider to the area like Starbucks, Marriott, Under Armour and others we have on the SPIRE campus. We’re very grateful to the community, Township and County leadership for their support.”

Despite SPIRE’s strong commitment to reviving Chops, which included extensive renovations to the bar, dining areas, and private event spaces, the growing demands of SPIRE’s Academy and campus operations have taken priority. By refocusing its efforts on these fast-growing areas, SPIRE aims to continue building a world-class facility in Geneva for athletes, students and visitors.

Looking ahead, SPIRE is working closely with Kevin Moss, First Vice President at CBRE, to identify a new operator for the restaurant space. Moss is confident that the location offers great potential for a new business to flourish.

“This is a fantastic restaurant opportunity for any operator looking for quality second-generation space,” said Moss. “The site is uniquely positioned with a built-in audience from SPIRE, wine country, and the strong neighborhood community. I have no doubt we will find a new operator that will succeed in this location. I’m excited to get started and bring new life into this space in short order.”

While Chops Grille & Tap House will be closing, SPIRE remains hopeful that their investment in the property will attract a new operator who can bring a fresh and exciting concept to the location, serving both the Geneva community and the many visitors to SPIRE’s campus.
