SPIRE Esports Scholarship Invitational Launches in Cleveland

02/03/2023

Think you’ve got what it takes to be a Rocket League Champion? SPIRE Fire, our esports division, is excited to announce the inaugural Esports Scholarship Invitational, fueled by Montrose Auto Group. The FREE event is taking place from February 2nd through April 1st at Montrose Auto Group locations throughout northeast Ohio. Rocket League enthusiasts will have the opportunity to battle against each other in 1v1 matches, with the top 12 competitors facing off at SPIRE’s campus for the championship round on Saturday, April 1st.

One champion will be crowned and awarded a $3,000 college scholarship to the institution of their choice. Second and third-place finishers will also receive $2,000 and $1,000 college scholarships, respectively. Scholarships will be provided courtesy of the Montrose Auto Group and will also include a number of other prizes from SPIRE Academy.

“Scholastic Esports is thriving in Ohio and working with Montrose Auto Group to showcase how local businesses both support and benefit from the growing esports space is exciting,” Rob Skinnion, SPIRE Director of Esports, explains. “Youth Esports are still in a stage of development where there aren’t always enough opportunities or resources. By building a strong relationship with local businesses, we can create a bedrock of support for the structure SPIRE and other youth development programs are trying to build while connecting families to locally owned and operated brands and businesses.”

We immediately jumped at the opportunity to partner with Montrose Auto Group. Not only are they a prominent area business, but they have an enthusiastic drive to support the families in their local communities.

“We are excited to partner with SPIRE Academy on this, what we hope to be, inaugural Esport event,” explains Todd Mullen, Vice President/General Manager of Montrose Auto Group’s Ashtabula County Auto Campus. “Our partnership has allowed us to create a new platform for the local high school communities to participate. Esports has taken the country by storm and we believe this unique tournament will prove to be a ton of fun for all.”
