HARPERSFIELD TOWNSHIP, OH — SPIRE Academy has appointed Jeffrey Gonzalez as its new Athletic Director for the 2025–2026 academic year. A native of Ashtabula and graduate of Edgewood High School, Gonzalez brings a strong understanding of the Academy’s mission and culture.
Gonzalez first competed at SPIRE in basketball and track from 2014 to 2016. He returned in 2020 as a house parent and quickly advanced through several roles, including Assistant Basketball Coach, Basketball Administrator, Director of Basketball Operations and most recently, Director of Basketball. Under his leadership, SPIRE’s basketball program earned a top-25 national ranking in 2021–2022 and rose into the top 15 in 2022–2023, contending for a National Championship.
In his new role, Gonzalez will implement the successful systems developed within the basketball program across all sports, while also supporting the expansion of both the Academy and its camp programming.
“We are thrilled to promote Jeff to Athletic Director,” said Jeff Javorek, Managing Director of Academy and Athletics. “He is a true professional who has worked his way up through SPIRE due to his incredible dedication and work ethic. Gonzalez has served in various roles and that diverse experience has given him a comprehensive understanding of multiple departments. What makes this even more special is that Jeff is a homegrown leader from Ashtabula County, now stepping into a pivotal role at SPIRE.”
Gonzalez expressed his enthusiasm about collaborating with the broader coaching staff. “We have an unbelievable team, with incredible coaches,” he said. “It’s a family oriented culture here and I’m excited to learn from everyone, observe their methods and support them in helping their athletes thrive.”
