Rising Stars Aiming for Record-Breaking Performances at the USATF Championships

The 2023 USA Track & Field Youth Outdoor National Championships are quickly approaching. Hosted at SPIRE Academy in Geneva, OH, the event takes place from June 26th through June 2. This event, an exhilarating showcase of talent, features some of the most exceptional young athletes in outdoor track and field.

A notable team of athletes to mention is the Ocean Breeze WaveRunners, the defending USATF National Youth Outdoor Team Champions from Staten Island, NY. The team believes athletics are one of the stepping stones for success and they are promoting, developing and empowering the next generation of track and field superstars. The WaveRunners were founded in 2015 with the mission of giving back to the community by educating their athletes in environmental stewardship, sustainability and the importance of volunteerism in our society. They started out small with 20 athletes and have grown to have over 130 athletes currently on the team.

You will want to watch out for the following WaveRunners at the 2023 USATF National Youth Outdoor Team Championships:

  • Mya-Abigail Thompson –Thompson took second place in the 100m (13.89) & 200m (28.80) while taking first as part of the gold-medal winning girls 9-10 4×100 team (1:00.94). Thompson is scheduled to compete in the 100m & 200m.
  • Kory Brown – Brown, a newcomer to the WaveRunners, recently ran 6.99 in the 60m dash at the 2023 Nike Indoor Nationals in March, setting the all-time record for an 8th grader. Brown is scheduled to compete in the 100m (10.86) & 200m (22.07)
  • Abigail Robisky – Robisky took first place in the 100m (12.87) & 200m (26.62) at the 2023 USATF New York Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships. Robisky is competing in the 200m & 400m looking for gold after finishing second in the 400m (59.51) in 2022.

Another athlete to keep an eye on during this competition is Jeb Moon. He will be competing in the 100-Meter, 200-Meter, 400-Meter and the long jump. This rising junior from Lynchburg, VA already boasts an impressive athletic resume and has earned the following accomplishments:

  • Nike All-American
  • MileStat All-American 
  • 10x National Qualifier
  • 10x State Qualifier

In addition to running track and field, Moon is also Liberty Christian Academy’s quarterback, and he has been awarded both All-District and All-Region honors for All-Purpose Offense. 

Moon says, “My parents say that I skipped walking and went straight to running…I love to compete, and I love to train. One day, I look forward to running in college. For now, I love every minute of running in high school, on the football field and in track”. 

The USA Track & Field National Youth Outdoor Championship promises to be an unforgettable event where rising stars and highly accomplished athletes come together to compete and celebrate their passion for the sport. Track and field fans can look forward to a championship where they will see first-hand the incredible achievements of these extraordinary young athletes.
