As usual, SPIRE Academy student athlete alumni are out there making their alma mater proud.
At the recent Pepsi Cola Relays, held April 4 and 5 at the University of Florida, Class of 2023 track-and-field alumnus Neo Mosebi ran a 10.03 100-meter dash—currently the ninth fastest time in the world for that event. Neo could conceivably dip below 10 seconds for the 100-meter dash sometime in 2025.
Neo is from South Africa. With times like this, there’s a good chance he could represent his home country at the next Summer Olympics, to be held in Los Angeles in 2028. Neo is certainly one of South Africa’s fastest runners at the moment.
“I’m immensely proud of this young man,” offers Kerron Stewart, Neo’s track-and-field coach at SPIRE. “He’s a true student athlete who’s doing great things both on and off the field. Neo is a young man of character, grit, discipline and unwavering dedication, so the success he’s having is not a surprise. He’s endured a lot, yet still he rises—a true inspiration. And make no mistake, this is only the beginning of what’s to come. The entire SPIRE family is very proud of Neo. Continue to rise, and keep your faith grounded in God.”
Coach Stewart put it well. SPIRE is a family—a family of student athletes, parents and staff. We follow these family members long after they’ve left our halls of learning and fields of play. We look forward to reporting more of Neo’s achievements, and are sure we will.
