Once a SPIRE athlete, always a SPIRE athlete. We’re excited to share with you the ongoing achievements of four of our former track and field student athletes, all of whom are taking their considerable talents—honed to a tee here at SPIRE Academy—to the next level.
Sprinter Ajani Daley came to SPIRE in 2022 from Antigua on a one-year scholarship. In the World Athletics Under-20 Championships, held in August of that year, he was Antigua’s and Barbuda’s lone qualifier, clocking a personal best of 10:48 seconds and finishing fourth in heat six of the opening round. Daley is currently racing for Hinds Community College in Mississippi.
Hurdler and football player turned long jumper CJ Krzanowicz graduated from Cheektowaga High School in New York in 2023. In 2022, he was the state’s outdoor medalist on six different occasions, and was the most-valuable athlete of western New York that same year. After graduating from high school, he attended SPIRE Academy for a post-grad year and trained under Tim Mack, the SPIRE track program’s head coach for vertical and horizontal jumps. Krzanowicz is currently jumping for Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Washington.
Pole vaulter Anjali Mead started her sports boarding school experience at another school in Florida, whose curriculum for track and field athletes boasted a well-known program for pole vaulting. But once she heard that former Olympic gold medalist Tim Mack was running SPIRE’s program for vertical and horizontal jumps, she made the switch north and excelled there. She’s currently pole vaulting for High Point University in North Carolina, where she hopes to qualify for the NCAA Division I championships, and is even considering pursuing the sport beyond college.
Cape Town born sprinter Neo Mosebi came to SPIRE having participated in rugby, cricket, squash and track, but it quickly became evident to Mosebi—and those around him—that his standout athletic ability was speed. As such, he rose quickly among the ranks of youth sprinters, finishing third in the South African Senior Athletics Championships in Cape Town in 2022. Mosebi then brought that speed to SPIRE, excelling there, as well. Mosebi holds SPIRE’s fastest time in the 100m dash, and is currently burning up the track at Seminole State College of Florida, where he ran a qualifying 100m and 200m time at the World U20 Championships.
SPIRE alumni often say their years here were the most formative of their lives. It could be the time, the place or the friendships they made. For many, the answer is found in the wholeness of the experience: the knowledge, the positivity, the values. We call it the SPIRE Way, and all of the alumni featured above exemplify it fully. We congratulate them on their ongoing success and look forward to hearing and reading more about them in the years to come. We’re sure we will.
