Who to Watch at the 2024 U20 World Team Trials

The excitement is close to a fever pitch as the 2024 USA Wrestling U20 World Team Trials approaches. The event is set to take place 05/31/2024 – 06/02/2024 at SPIRE Academy in Geneva, OH. This year’s competition promises to be intense, with some of the most promising young wrestlers in the United States competing for a chance to represent Team USA on the world stage at the 2024 U20 World Championships in Pontevedra, Spain this coming September.

The competition will be held in both the Freestyle and Greco-Roman disciplines. Among the athletes expected to enter are the U20 national champions from the 2024 US Open Championships held in Las Vegas, NV last month:

Men’s Freestyle U20 Nationals Champions

  • 57 kg – Luke Lilledahl (Nittany Lion WC)
  • 61 kg – Cael Hughes (Cowboy RTC)
  • 65 kg – Bo Bassett (Bishop McCourt)
  • 70 kg – P.J. Duke (KD Training Center)
  • 74 kg – Ladarion Lockett (Cowboy WC)
  • 79 kg – Zack Ryder (M2 Training Center)
  • 86 kg – Aeoden Sinclair (Askren Wrestling Academy)
  • 92 kg – Connor Mirasola (Askren Wrestling Academy)
  • 97 kg – Camden McDanel (USOPTC)
  • 125 kg – Jimmy Mullen (Southeast RTC)

Greco-Roman U20 Nationals Champions

  • 55 kg – Isaiah Cortez (Daniel Cormier WC)
  • 60 kg – Cory Land (Panther WC-RTC)
  • 63 kg – Otto Black (Colorado Top Team WC)
  • 67 kg – Joel Adams (The Best Wrestler)
  • 72 kg – Brett Back (Dubuque RTC)
  • 77 kg – Aydin Rix-McElhinney (Northern Colorado WC)
  • 82 kg – Arian Khosravy (California)
  • 87 kg – Nick Nosler (Southern Illinois RTC)
  • 97 kg – Soren Herzog (Air Force RTC)
  • 130 kg – Aden Attao (Beaver Dam RTC)

Each champion has automatically advanced to the best-of-three championship series in his weight class, awaiting the winner of the challenge tournament. The competition is expected to be fierce, as only the best-of-the-best will make it through to compete at the U20 World Championships.

In addition to the U20 World Team Trials SPIRE Academy is also hosting the U23 Nationals for a truly amazing and jam-packed wrestling spectacular! Those who compete and qualify in the U23 Nationals will go to compete in the Seniors World Championships in Tirana, Albania.

Please note that all competitors: 

  • Must be U.S. citizens and eligible to obtain a US passport. 
  • U20 age athletes (Born 2004-2007), U23 age athletes (Born 2001-2006)
  • Eligible athletes in the U20 division must be prequalified to compete.

During the event, SPIRE’s own Mike Kulczycki, Wrestling Head Coach, will be facilitating a wrestling skill development clinic where athletes can hone their skills and work with some of the best in the sport. The clinic will be taking place on Sunday, June 2nd from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM. Any clinic attendees will also receive free admission to the USA Wrestling event as well.
