SPIRE ACADEMY | OUR "FOUR PILLARS"
ACADEMY MODEL

  • 1. Academics

Our accredited 9-12th grade college preparatory academic program provides students with the learning rigor to earn admission to any college or university in the country. The program is cross-discipline and built on a project based experiential model that meets the needs of multiple types of learners. This customized academic model is designed to meet students where they are, and not require them to adapt to preconceived teacher expectations. Our state-of-the-art facility will allow students in the classrooms and on bigger projection sites in the common area to connect live to learning destinations and people around the world. Academics occupies five hours of each SPIRE student’s day.

  • 2. Personal Skills Development

There are many personal skills that will, if acquired during middle school and high school years, create a foundation to help one get through all of life’s ups and downs. These skill categories include trust, listening, teamwork, time management, work ethic, respect, relationships, understanding, failure, leadership, proactive vs. reactive, family, ethnic and socio-economic/cultural differences and much more. When these things are discussed in an environment that nurtures agreement and disagreement, we help young people get a better understanding of self and where we all fit on this planet. Personal skill development is woven into the academic, career and major training of each student every day, with some time being fully dedicated solely to the development of particular individual life skills.

  • 3. Career Exploration Opportunities (CEO)

Technology today provides high school students with the ability – in less than three minutes on a computer or iPhone – to find and learn the beginning steps to any profession. While this is helpful, these same students need hands on exposure and significant experience to better prepare them for career paths beyond high school. Along these lines, SPIRE invites experienced professionals from over 30 career fields to work on a weekly basis with our students to help them develop the knowledge, skills and experience required to make them a better candidate when applying to college, university or their first job. CEO courses are offered evenings and weekends with students getting up to 400 hours of instruction in a particular field between freshman and senior year of high school.

  • 4. Major Concentration

The seven areas of passion offered as “majors” at SPIRE are Basketball, Esports, Lacrosse, Soccer, Swimming, Track & Field and Wrestling. The amount of time dedicated to training within each major is four hours per school day. Three of these hours are dedicated toward skill development via technical instruction, tactical training, competitive drilling and developmental exercises. The fourth hour is focused on long term athletic performance training, which includes physical strength and conditioning, mental skills training and proper nutrition/hydration guidance. SPIRE coaches know how to develop athletes (or students training within other major disciplines) to realize their full potential at the next level. They understand how to schedule the proper amount of competition, at the right times, against appropriate competitors. And they are extremely skilled and knowledgeable when it comes to working with students, their families, and SPIRE college placement counselors to make sure that each graduate (or post graduate) has the best opportunity to be accepted within the ideal college or university athletic/academic environment.
