We caught up with SPIRE Alum Jose Urtecho the other day.
“SPIRE Institute and Academy is the coolest place I’ve ever been related to swimming,” said Urtecho. “I learned new ways to improve not only in swimming but as a person. My favorite part of my time at SPIRE was being able to hang round with other students from all over the country and world.”
Urtecho came to SPIRE to improve his skills on his path to college. He will be going to Thomas More University in the fall, swimming for Monty Hopkins. Well respected and successful Coach Hopkins is entering his third season as the head men’s and women’s swimming & diving coach at Thomas More University.
“Jose brought a positive attitude and a good work ethic to SPIRE and it paid off in significant improvements. He connected well with his teammates, showed respect to all and expressed appreciation for his opportunities. It was a genuine pleasure to work with Jose.”
Urtecho competed in USA Swim meets and aspires to win the conference for his university and eventually compete for DR in The Olympic games. He currently swims for the Dominican Republic Swimming Federation.
