The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) on Wednesday, Oct. 14 announced championship sites for a four-year cycle that covers the 2022-25 school years.

In partnership with the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission (GCSC), SPIRE will host four championships over the next four-year cycle, including the NCAA’s 2021 D-III Men’s & Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships, the 2022 D-III Men’s & Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the 2024 D-II Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships and the 2025 D-III Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

According to SPIRE’s Chief Operating Officer Jeff Orloff, the 750,000 sq. ft. multi-sport training complex already has a successful track record hosting NCAA, the Big East, Big Ten, Atlantic 10, Olympic trials, world championship qualifiers and other events.

“SPIRE is proud to host more events throughout the year, geared toward more levels of competition, across a greater number of sports, than anyone else in the industry,” said Orloff. “We’re excited to welcome these four events to our campus, and looking forward to bringing our experience and expertise to bear on these very visible and important NCAA events.”

Assisting with the upcoming NCAA events will be SPIRE’s Aquatics Director Thad Shultz, a former national champion with extensive event experience, and SPIRE’s Director of Track & Field Charlie Powell, also a world-renowned athlete and coach.

In addition to one of the fastest pools in the world and an excellent indoor track and field facility, SPIRE’s Fuel Nutrition Center located in the Aquatics Center offers an innovative “training table” approach for the competitive athlete, as well as a wide variety of dining options for the general public.

The swimming and diving championships are estimated to have an impact of $375,000 on the local economy, and the outdoor track and field championships are projected to have an impact of $2 million.

“We are so pleased to be partnering on these events with the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission,” said Orloff. “Being able to partner with the number one sports commission in the country helps to bring these events to the highest level possible.”
