The SPIRE men’s basketball team is anticipating an exceptional season. In an interview, Admissions Representative for Basketball Michael Dooley provided insights into the team’s goals, key events, standout players, program changes and the distinctive culture setting SPIRE apart.

Dooley said the team is looking forward to “continuing the tradition of excellence.” Recent victories against Olympus Prep and the anticipation of hosting a game against Putnam Science demonstrate the team’s ambition. This season, the team will participate in other tournaments, including the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas and the Perkiomen Basketball Tournament in Philadelphia to showcase their abilities on a national stage.

This season, SPIRE merged its high school and postgraduate basketball programs, to increase efficiency and positively impact how the program operates. This move fosters collaboration among all players and coaches involved in the program. Discussing the team, Dooley emphasized the potential of players Abdou Yadd and Aris Rodriguez, who are attracting interest from top-tier programs. Yadd, a 6’10” forward, stands out with a high level of interest from Division I programs.

Dooley also highlighted SPIRE’s strategic location in Ohio, a hub for all levels of basketball. This allows the team to draw its members from the Midwest, East Coast, and international locations and contributes to its unique identity. SPIRE allows any player, regardless of initial placement the opportunity to play on the national team. Dooley notes this approach encourages competition and merit-based player selection.
