We’re rooting for basketball post grad student, Nicolò Nobili, as he prepares for his next step to play for the Boston University Terriers next year. His accomplishments thus far have made him yet another success story for a SPIRE student, and it’s not over yet.
SPIRE has placed student athletes in nearly 90 different colleges and universities across the country since its inception, including UCLA, Ohio State, Cornell and Columbia. We offer athletes the opportunity to improve their sport and educational performance and places as much emphasis on academics and college placement as on athletic development. SPIRE’s College Planning and Placement program consistently allows students to improve the athletic and academic skills that get them noticed by the top decision makers nationwide.
Nicolò Nobili, a native of Bologna, Italy, chose SPIRE for his post-graduate experience seeking to improve his game, specifically looking to fine-tune his offensive skills on the court. Sharing a passion for basketball with his father since he was 8, Nicolò came to the United States just prior to his junior year to fulfill his dreams. Nicolò had many options for his post grad experience, but chose SPIRE because he felt the Ohio athletic academy gave him the best opportunity to experience the daily routine of a college basketball player, including travelling for games, academic studies, lifting, practice, and workouts. “SPIRE’s facilities are very hard to find in any other prep schools, and the experience gives you the chance to really work on your body and your game.”
All Nicolò’s hard work paid off when Boston University Basketball coach Joe Jones offered him a scholarship. Nicolò says he was grateful for the opportunity because Boston University is a great school with a winning basketball program. “When I realized I had completed another step of my basketball career, I felt very blessed and fortunate.”

Nicolò explains that SPIRE basketball coach Michael Dooley and head coach Jeffrey Sparrow were a great help to him, both in his training and in helping him make connections with interested coaches from colleges, including coach Jones from Boston University. He also credits SPIRE for giving him the opportunity to be in an environment that is respected nationwide. “When schools knew I was attending SPIRE, they already knew I would be spending a year in a great program that would help me become a better player.”

Head coach Sparrow knows that for Nicolò, the future looks bright. “Nicolò has been an absolute pleasure to work with. At 6’10, he is a special talent. His passing vision creates opportunities for everyone he plays with. He’s smart, humble and hungry. He will be a crucial piece to our puzzle this season. We look forward to watching his growth the next 4 years under Coach Jones’ tutelage.”
As for his academic future, Nicolò is still not entirely certain where he wants to focus his studies. “I’m not 100% sure what I will major in yet, but I think it will most likely be business.”
